It is just a two-hour drive from Boston and a 15-minute drive from Portland. Freeport is also home to some of Maine’s best craft breweries.

The Inn at English Meadows, Kennebunkport, ME

Inn at English Meadows

If you prefer something more intimate, the luxurious Inn at English Meadows is the ideal choice. Located a short walk to downtown Kennebunkport, this bed and breakfast is a member of the Distinctive Inns of New England and Select Registry.

This former Greek Revival style home was built in the 1800s and has been lovingly restored with comfortable elegance. Pickering House Inn, Wolfeboro, NH

Snowvillage Inn, North Conway, NH

The adults-only Rabbit Hill Inn in Northern Vermont is a perfect destination for a romantic getaway. Just three hours from Boston and 5.5 from New York City, the Inn sits on 15 acres in a peaceful village on the Connecticut River.

Stone Hill Inn, Stowe, VT

The Stone Hill Inn is just nine minutes from skiing and six minutes from downtown Stowe, which is a great year-round spot and a top leaf-peeping destination. Stowe is a charming town offering great food, wines, and especially brews.

Surrounded by Vermont’s Green Mountains, Woodstock offers quaint antique shops, art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, specialty food markets, and more. Nearby you will find The Billings Farm and Museum, and the famous Simon Pearce glassworks.

Winter getaway amenities include complimentary shuttle services to the resort’s Suicide Six Ski Area and Nordic center, ski storage, equipment rentals, scheduling lessons, recommending and arranging therapeutic spa treatments, and making reservations at the Inn’s restaurants, the Red Rooster and Richardson’s Tavern, featuring locally sourced menus.

Grafton Inn, Grafton, VT

The estate includes the Inn, the Great House at Castle Hill (a National Historic Landmark), and the renowned Crane Beach and Wildlife Refuge.

Guests can enjoy walking the grounds of the beautiful property with a self-guided tour using the TourTrustees app, participate in a Full Moon Hike, Snowy Owl Prowl, and enjoy the beautiful north shore including nearby Appleton Farms.

The Whaler’s Inn, Mystic, CT

After all, there is a reason it was featured in the “Mystic Christmas” holiday movie on the Hallmark Channel! Downtown Mystic offers over a dozen eateries and boutique shops. Nearby you can explore the historic Mystic Seaport and the Shops at Mystick.

The Whaler’s Inn in downtown Mystic offers 47 guest rooms throughout five distinct buildings. The Hoxie House is for adults only. I have stayed twice at the Saybrook Point Inn and Spa, once in a room with a fireplace for the Fire & Ice Festival, and once in the summer in the Lighthouse Suite. Both make for a perfect romantic getaway. 

The rooms are elegant and charming. Relaxing at the Spa makes a perfect couple’s getaway and Sunday brunch is not to be missed.

Nearby, guests can enjoy biking and hiking trails, ride the Essex Steam Train, visit local wineries, and even take a lighthouse sightseeing cruise from New London. The coastal setting offers a beautiful sunrise view and the marina makes it a perfect spot for boaters to dock and spend some time on land.
